Pipeline Coffee Company is open for business! This is basically the coffee shop of my dreams: an inviting, streamlined interior and a perfect frothy design in every cup make Pipeline Coffee extra special. From the menu to the local connections it’s obvious that owners, Patrick Tighe and Michael Santo, take their caffeine seriously. Located in Wantagh, right by the train station, it is the hot spot for an array of satisfying drinks and eats.
Let’s start with the coffee. You can order favorites like lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos (all starting at $3) and then Pipeline Coffee takes you on an adventurous ride. Try the Third Rail. This electrifying concoction of lemonade and espresso is a surprisingly refreshing take on iced coffee, and that’s exactly what we need to discuss next. Coffee ice cubes! They’re made daily to serve in cold caffeinated drinks and that’s just one of the ways this sleek spot shows attention to detail.
Wanting to use local products when possible, you will see gleaming taps proudly displaying Coastal Craft Kombucha, brewed just down the road in Oceanside and delivered fresh each week. For more on Pipeline’s commitment to serving local, let’s chat about the food.
Take a seat, this is going to get serious.
Tighe and Santo have gone out of their way to make a visit to Pipeline Coffee Company a true Long Island experience. They worked with Wantagh’s Chef Tony Mazzella to design an impressive menu. You can read more specifics in this article, but I want to tell you about my own experience.
The sweet and savory Maple Bourbon Bacon muffin of Instagram fame is a reason to get there early and order one before they run out. Bits of crisp bacon set against a sweet background is just. so. good. Then, there’s the ultimate breakfast choice. The chorizo, egg, and black bean taco is every bit as delicious as it sounds. Believe me when I say you’ll be the envy of train riders from Wantagh to Penn Station once you board with this savory breakfast treat in hand.
A sign on the wall reminds customers to “Live Simply” while you sip your beverage of choice and relax to the tranquil music streaming out of the Victrola. It’s plain to see that these owners are invested in building a community, not just a business. Their veteran donation program is going strong (GI Cup of Joe) and they greet customers by name. All in all, Pipeline Coffee is shaping up to be something pretty special on the South Shore.
