Family Day at Green Meadows Farm

October 15, 2017 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

This year we will make our annual trip to Green Meadows Farm. The urban farm draws families from all parts of New York City plus Long Island. Keep reading as I share why it’s one of the best fall activities in our area.

Pros:

Ok, the obvious pro here is that the value CANNOT be beat. There are so many fall activities in our area, but they get expensive with three kids. GMF is $10 per child and it’s a full day of farm fun including a hay ride! Another pro: the photo opportunities abound- with a huge pumpkin patch and tons of animals, you will have a picture perfect day!

Cons:

When the weather is nice, it can get crowded. That means the parking can be a headache. Since we go every year, we just just mentally prepare for the parking challenge- that’s about all you can do.

The Details:

**You will arrive at the farm and park in the large lot. If parking is not available, the attendants will lead you to other street locations.

The day at Green Meadows Farm begins when you pay your entrance fee. From here you will be given a guide and tour group. This may require that you wait a few moments for the group to organize.

First, you will see the many animals that live at this farm. There is a large area with cows, a turkey, sheep, LOTS of chickens (don’t miss the Japanese chickens!), pigs, goats, and lots of others. There is an option to feed some of them depending on the time of day.

DON’T MISS THE REPTILE HOUSE! If it’s crowded they may not take the group, but you can enter if you request it. There is a HUGE tortoise and other sleek creatures in here. Kids love it.

The pony ride is up next! Yep, included in your $10 is a pony ride on a saddled horse.

Next is my favorite part: the hay ride. Participants climb a small ladder to board the tractor and you will get a full tour of the farm including the **spooky areas**. I skipped this part when I was pregnant as it is a bumpy ride.

After the hay ride, it’s time to see the pumpkin patch and take home your very own pumpkin! The photos from this particular patch are colorful and cute- just what you need for your fall memories.

Green Meadows Farm is a great way to spend a family day and a super awesome value. Enjoy!
